Santorini Beaches Mesa Pigadia

Santorini Beaches

Take time out to explore and relax on the unique beaches of Santorini.  Lapped by the crystal clearwaters of the Aegean Sea, Santorini’s volcanic past has shaped the island’s beaches. The south east coast of Santorini has miles of long volcanic sandy beaches, Perissa, Perivolos and Kamari being the most popular.  And there’s the iconic Red Beach, the small White beach (accessible only by boat) and the impressive lunar landscape beach of Vlychada.  Throw in the lesser well known beaches of Mesa Pigadia and Caldera Beach and you’ve got plenty of beach day options for your holiday in Santorini.

Perissa

The Classic Black Beaches in Santorini

At the foot of the Mesa Vouno Mountain, Perissa Beach is a long and popular stretch of black sand to the southeast of Santorini. Expect a full range of facilities, beach bars, seafront restaurants and some excellent tavernas.

Perissa Beach in Santorini has grown into a very popular beach resort. The long stretch of volcanic sands and crystal clear water makes it an ideal place to spend some hours enjoying the Greek summer.

There are many different beach bars where you hang out at during the day. All offer sun loungers and parasols and provide the all important beach service: expect drinks, cocktails and food menus served directly to your beach beds.

Watersports are also available including jet skis, paragliding, and many ways to get wet!

Perivolos

With Beach Bars Galore

The beach of Perivolos in Santorini is along the same stretch of volcanic sand as Perissa. In fact it’s hard to know where one starts and ends.

Perivolos has some excellent beach bars where you can sink into your comfy sunlounger or splash out in a sea front cabana. Expect attentive beach service, amazing cocktails and fresh juices and great choice of beach food. The only hard part will be deciding when and for how long you’ll take a dip in the crystal clear sea.  Check out our Best Beach Bars for Couples in Santorini.

There are also watersports centres in Perivolos where you can rent jet skis or maybe go paragliding.

Vlychada

Santorini Beaches Don't Get More Unique Than This

The beach of Vlychada is on the southern side of Santorini. The impressive lunar landscape forms a stunning back drop to the sand and shingle beach which stretches 1.5 kilometres.

At one of the Vlychada Beach you’ll find the small marina and the Tomato Industrial Factory. There’s a simple beach bar there too with sunloungers and a small cafe. At the other end, carved into the rock is Theros Wave Bar, a cool, laid back beach bar and restaurant. In between is an almost deserted stretch of beach (and even a part where clothing is optional).

If you want to avoid the crowds, and see arguably the most unique beach on Santorini, then Vlychada comes out on top.

Kamari

The man made resort of Kamari is a popular choice with families. The pretty promenade that runs along the seafront is packaed with tavernas, restaurants and cafes all vying for your Euro. Beach bars spill onto the dark sand and shingle beach and beach life here is as good as it gets for families and couples who like the bustling resort feel.

Watersports enthusiasts are well taken care of here too with a number of good watersports centres on the beach.

It’s also a great place for plane spotting as landing aircraft fly over Kamari to land at Santorini Airport.

Mesa Pigadia

The lesser known Santorini Beaches

The beach of Mesa Pigadia is located on the Akrotiri peninsular. One of the lesser known and visited beaches on Santorini (partly due to the steep road leading to the beach).

As well as boasting a stunning and wild landscape, one of the main reasons you’ll visit Mesa Pigadia is the Akro Beach bar. Perfect for couples, this hip, cool and relaxed beach is the perfect tonic to relieve stress and recharge your batteries.
